Here are two single-sourcing examples. If you are using a mobile device, be aware that the two browser-based help systems are not responsive; they were produced before that era of sophistication! The purpose of the examples is to demonstrate that I can single-source projects. The first example also demonstrates my approach to information architecture (my approach is both basic and immutable, regardless of the particular semantics or jargon you use to describe the organisation of information) – overview, configuration, usage, reference, troubleshooting. I believe it is important to separate reference information from how-to instructions, especially in task-based topics: Context, yes; needless background, no.
The first example, MFhelp, was created using madcap Flare. I designed the templates and stylesheets so that I did not need to worry about what my output format was. My client decided that a PDF guide and an online HTML help system would be needed.
The online help should work in at least Firefox and Edge and is the complete system: MF help
The PDF contains a subset of the full manual: MF manual
The second example, IV, was a specific requirement. The remit was to provide a printable PDF file of process flows and procedural steps for each stage of the process. The PDF had to be navigable online and the printed output was required to be US legal size for pinning onto walls. The information also had to be available as an HTML-based help system. The source files were FrameMaker and they were used in conjunction with Webworks Publisher to provide single-sourcing for both output types. I designed a transformation template for the HTML output and page design.
The front page of the PDF shows the main sections and would have been hyperlinked. Go to page 3 to see one of the process flows. The Login and Choose a Product boxes are hyperlinked to their respective procedural pages. The Q&A for each procedure varied considerably, so a flexible 2 or 3 column page layout was used: IV manual
Note that this help was designed for Internet Explorer 6 and might not display correctly in other web browsers, although it was working in Edge in March 2021. The Overall User Process box is hyperlinked to the relevant process flow. The Login and Choose a Product boxes are hyperlinked to their respective procedural pages. Note that for online presentation, the page is a single column and the Q&A section is a rollup section, making the page neater in appearance. The Search tab is active but the demonstration was not indexed: IV help
